Die for Me by Amy Plum
My rating: 1 of 5 stars
In the City of Lights, two star-crossed lovers battle a fate that is destined to tear them apart again and again for eternity.
When Kate Mercier's parents die in a tragic car accident, she leaves her life--and memories--behind to live with her grandparents in Paris. For Kate, the only way to survive her pain is escaping into the world of books and Parisian art. Until she meets Vincent.
Mysterious, charming, and devastatingly handsome, Vincent threatens to melt the ice around Kate's guarded heart with just his smile. As she begins to fall in love with Vincent, Kate discovers that he's a revenant--an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save the lives of others. Vincent and those like him are bound in a centuries-old war against a group of evil revenants who exist only to murder and betray. Kate soon realizes that if she follows her heart, she may never be safe again.

I don't get it...
What do people see in this book??? I was bored to death even after I was half through the book!

When I read this, "The answer to your question of where I was taking you would be...to the most beautiful place in Paris. With the most beautiful girl I have been lucky enough to set eyes on..."

THOSE LINES ARE TOO FLUFFY, I ALMOST SUFFOCATED! I officially decided to abandon this book. I don't care if the other half of the book is freaking awesome because you madame (Amy Plum) had wasted a few hours of my precious weekends. I'm just going to search for spoilers to find out what I'd been missing to spare myself some sanity.

Again, people! REAL LOVE NEEDS TIME TO DEVELOP. You don't simply laid your eyes on a strange, hot Frenchman and declare, I MEANT TO BE WITH THIS GUY!!! Plus, this Vincent guy admitted that he is obsessed over you, Kate! RUN KATE, RUN! For the sake of your life or...hmm...your virginity.

Well, I found the characters as uninspiring and (some) are just plain stupid. Who needs a sister like Georgina? She's like the reincarnated version of Paris Hilton. So annoying!

And people...as paranormal fantasy-ish as this book meant to be, can we consider a little science behind this 'zombie'like premise. One does not simply wake up after being dead for three days and doesn't succumb to muscle wasting, starvation or (obviously) lack of fluid (despite the revenants do feel unwell after 'waking up'). Well, of course that three days, they are dead but no! I still against the idea of waking up almost flawlessly afterwards, I think it doesn't hurt to put the revenants into comatose state instead. That idea seems more plausible.

*Sigh* This is like the 'Edward' thing all over again. A vampire, without a heartbeat and poof, he could get this human girl to be pregnant!

Writing Demon Royale (Or how I panicked about getting it wrong)

In Dream Slayer Natalie Johnson is a day dreamer who creates a world of fantastical adventures.  Her dreams create chaos in the real world as everyone’s nightmares, deepest fears, manifest around them. When it’s over she discovers her real power, strength, but people suffer along the way.
And some die.
I had setup a platform for a series about two kick butt heroines. I know where they will end up in Book three and ultimately where the series will end. But how do I get them there?
Initial I had a kick butt plot setup where Natalie springs into action, kills a lot of demons, saves her friends from sacrifice, and eats a lot of pancakes. It was great, it was exciting. My husband loved it, but I wasn’t sure.
It was missing something.
I wasn’t sure what it was missing at first. It seemed like a logical step in Natalie’s progression. She’s learning to fight and figuring out who she is; her relationship with her boyfriend, and along the way she saves the world. Again.
But there was no compassion for the fallen. No remorse for the damage and death she had caused in the first book. I realized I had focused all her attention on learning to fight, to become an effective undead killer, and I needed to put that focus on her emotions.
So I kept some aspects of the plot I loved (like the pancakes, demonic squirrels) and I started over. In Dream Slayer, Natalie had never questioned her destiny because there wasn’t time. The city was at stake! There was evil all around.
Now in this highly personal novel for Natalie it gives her the opportunity to mourn the lost and gives her the chance to decide, ‘is this what I really want’? Is she comfortable being a hero, a leader?
While there is still a lot of danger, evil, and the world is again at risk, it is a smaller journey for Natalie as she comes to grips with her life and the past choices she’s made. As she gets sicker and she begins to lose strength, she always loses resolve. When you’re the hero with no one else to reside on what should she do? What would you do?

Book Description: (Spoilers if you haven't read Reflection!)

Harmony…  I’ve previously had that in my life, but only once, briefly, a while ago.  It was during the time I’d started my first year of college.  My own apartment, a new old car, and a life free of deadbeat stepfathers, all of which was fulfilling enough.  But if it wasn’t, I also had a best friend, soul mate, and boyfriend all in one.  Yes, life was near perfect. But one stormy night can change everything…For many months I rested in a prolonged sleep, fighting for my life.  Well, more than fighting for it, also dreaming of it.  Dreaming of him.  Thank goodness, the dream is over and I’m back in the real world now.  And all I want is for everything to return to the way it was.  But nothing’s the same; most of all, us.Once again, I find myself at the crossroads of a ruthless battle, this time not for life, but love.  Do I fight for the guy I twice fell for, or do I let her take him away?

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Isabella Swan's move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Isabella's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Isabella, the person Edward holds most dear. The lovers find themselves balanced precariously on the point of a knife-between desire and danger.Deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires. This is a love story with bite.

Ermm, I don't know why but I feel the urge to explain why did I rate this book so high. This was technically the first Young Adult Paranormal book I've read way, way, way back loooooooooong time ago.

I was so...

...young...so innocent...

hence I remembered that I like it. I even finished the whole series.

So, I'll keep the rating because I remembered that I like the book but I couldn't remember what I liked about the book. So, I want to keep it that way.

So that I don't hate my past self.

But thanks to Stephenie Meyer, I developed my interest in this genre which leads me to find way, way, better books than what she had written. I owe her so much!

ARE YOU GUYS EXCITED YET! It's only  a little over a month before the conclusion to the amazing series Transcend Time, TIMELESS will hit the store! If you haven't heard of TIMELESS yet, here is the book blurb;

Timeless by Michelle Madow

Expected publication: November 20th 2012 by Dreamscape Publishing

IT'S A RACE AGAINST TIME.
In Remembrance, Lizzie and Drew changed the course of fate so they could be together.
In Vengeance, Chelsea set fate back on its original, deadly path.
Now, strange things keep happening to Lizzie. Things that are omens of darkness to come. A curse has doomed her to die an early death, just as she did in her past life. To make things worse, even if she can figure out who cast the curse, it's irreversible. There's only one option left for her to save herself. It's crazier than anything she's heard yet, and to do it, she'll need Drew and Chelsea's help.
Because to make things right, they must go back to when it all began …
Today, the author of TIMELESS, the lovely Michelle Madow has been kind enough to make an appearance here at QWERTY. And she will list down Drew's Top Five Favourite Songs and why. Enjoy! :D

Drew’s Top Five Favorite Songs

Drew loves music, especially alternative and classicrock. One of his favorite things to do to relax is play guitar, or listen to music. Here is a list of his top five favorite songs!

1) “Minuet” by Mozart
Drew danced with Lizzie to this song in their past life, and it reminds him of her. This song is very special to both of them!

2) “Wonderwall” by Oasis
This is the first song Drew learned to play on guitar. A counselor at his camp taught him how to play it, and when he got home that summer he asked his parents for a guitar so he could continue to play.

3) “Fire and Rain” by James Taylor
Whenever Drew needs to chill out and relax, this is one of his go-to songs. James Taylor is one of his favorite musicians because of his incredible guitar playing and soothing voice.

4) “When the Stars Go Blue” by Ryan Adams
This song reminds Drew of being with Lizzie on the lake outside his house.

5) “Revolution” by the Beatles
Drew’s favorite song when he just wants to jam out!

Thank you, Zuleeza, for having me on your blog!

Thank to you too, Michelle for your time! I didn't expect Drew to have such a vast variety in his music choice! XD

Author Bio:

Michelle Madow was inspired to write Remembrance after seeing Taylor Swift's "Love Story" music video while a junior at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. The song and video gave her the story idea about a high school girl reincarnated from Regency Era, England. She handed in the first chapter as a homework assignment for class, and when her teacher and classmates wanted her to continue writing, she decided to go for it. By the end of the school year, her first novel was completed!
For more information on Michelle and her books, visit www.michellemadow.com. Michelle lives in Florida, where she is hard at work writing more novels for young adults.
